Sportsmanship Award of the Week -- kicking off in April 2022!

Player
As coaches and parents, we often find ourselves uplifted by the acts of kindness, encouragement, and heart of our young Rye Youth Soccer players. There are moments that leave us in awe of our players for their compassion, their honesty, their acts of service, and their integrity-- moments in which we learn from them. It is our mission to magnify these moments, to shine a spotlight on players who are setting a positive example for all of us, on and off the field.

Each week, the RYS staff will choose one player who has gone above and beyond to show humility, generosity, selflessness, and camaraderie. This player will receive a Sportsmanship Award write up about the impact they’ve made. We look forward to documenting and spreading the joy that these players bring to us!

Parent / Parent Coach
Along with choosing a player each week, we also recognize a parent or parent coach who we believe embodies the RYS philosophy. We understand how vital parent support is to the overall development and happiness of our players. Parents who provide supportive words, display a reserved sideline manner, and have an understanding that mistakes met with grace allow room for growth, can be game changers for players’ emotional health and overall development. Parents who model professionalism, peace, and empathy in situations with refs, opposing coaches, and opposing parents, can set the tone for a contagiously positive environment. When a parent or parent coach praises a player for being brave enough to take a penalty kick but misses it, that player and the rest of the team feel safe because the pressure and the mistake were normalized. When a parent or parent coach can find positives in a loss, the players can understand that winning doesn’t determine their value. Through this award, our soccer community will learn about moments like these each week!
